As the slogan says, design is the face of your business.
Design is almost always the first impression of your business – whether it’s a business card, a flyer, your signage, a letterhead, a logo or a website – the design is the first visual experience people will have with your business. Good design puts on a good face and makes a good first impression.
Costs
Print design
So many different types of jobs, I can only give an estimate after sitting down and discussing your requirements.
Website design
How long is a piece of string? That is sometimes easier to answer than “How much will a website cost?” Even though we are only talking about the one product, it has many flavours and features.
Two things push up the cost, though: Design and features.
Design can be very simple with just minimal use of colour, and one banner image; or it can be quite complex, with many different elements (e.g. idylbookcafe.com.au). And bear in mind, a site might look like a simple design because of it’s cleanness, but the development necessary could still be time consuming (e.g. cfanea.org.au which automatically changes the banner to red on a Total Fire Ban day).
Features are things like calendars, forms, e-commerce, blogs/news, downloads, photo galleries, link pages, search, forums, user comments, user registration, vacancies, social networking, customised content display and so on.
Currently, websites don’t have a reliable return like, say Yellow Pages advertising. You could spend $2000 on a website and have it take two years or more to recoup that cost. It depends on how people normally find your business, and how well you promote your website. But the world is changing and at least having a web presence is important, even if that is just a page or two.
To that end, I am working towards providing “Lite” sites for under AU$500, with minimal design and no features (i.e just unlimited blank pages for you to fill with your content). I will continue to provide premium sites, which usually range anywhere from AU$1500 and up. And, of course, I can fit something between the two, depending on your budget.
